- What did you find special, interesting, or unique about the interviewee’s personal story or point of view on the world?
- Definitely thought it was interesting how Prodigy’s parents both were part of the music industry. It is believable that his parents were not able to raise him properly and keep him in line because his parents led lifestyles that was hard to raise a kid in. I think it was unique how Prodigy’s parents seemed affluent yet he still had to hustle on the streets to feel real or included with the kids he lived near. It is like his parents mediocre wealth and fame steered him towards a life of hustling instead of a life of properness. Also very special and interesting how Prodigy has Sickle Cell Anemia and he decided to choose a life of hustling and risk taking when he knew how his body was restricted.
- What sort of insight or perspective did they provide that can be applicable to people outside of the immediate “fan base” of this person?
- Apart from teaching young kids in Queens about Prodigy’s life the interview can provide information to people outside the normal fan base about why a kid from Queens would choose to take some risks with his life. Prodigy’s choice to live and follow a life of crime and risk seems unreasonable when he was provided with what seemed to be a better life.
- How can you relate to this person, concretely or abstractly?
- I think I can definitely relate to Prodigy’s choices to take risks and break some laws. I think this would be a more of an abstract relation though because crimes I have committed are definitely pretty petty compared to what Prodigy went through to prove himself to his peers. However the idea of proving myself to my peers is more a concrete relationship because that is a big part of growing up.
- Did this interview reveal anything to you that can be related back to the concepts surrounding inquiry 3?
- Definitely the idea that nobody knows the background of another person or what they choose to go through to become the person they want to be. The interview with Prodigy taught me to no jump to conclusions about a person’s history or personal choices.
- Perhaps most importantly, how did this interview change your perspective? What did it teach you?
- This interview definitely changed how I interpret music or artist’s lyrics. I never took the time to look into Mobb Deep despite listening to them for a while. I have never actually taken the time to look into artist’s histories or background and try to figure out what drives their lyrics to come out the way they are.
